Oliver Tiura - A Finnish/Canadian artist, sculptor, inventor

Welcome to my site. The works imaged here are a collection of mixed current and historical works which I have created over the years. This site is not intended as a usual commercial site attempting to sell you my latest and greatest, but to give you an understanding of the producing life of one artist from the 1960’s to today. Subjects are offered here by general media since my interests delve into a very wide range of materials from bronze castings, to steel constructions, to acrylic sculptures, and importantly, to encaustics. I present these works as realized ideas having ongoing themes, through a variety of media. With similar subject matter cropping up in diverse materials and expressions. And just for the heck of it, later on the site, I will include some of my consumer product inventions in the Archives section.

I am old school. I don’t spend my time elucidating on the zeitgeist revolving around ephemera, esoterics and fleeting installations. No, I spend my time, not in chatter, but in actualizations of challenging substance. Indeed, offered discovery, challenge and substance have always been the mainstays of my work.

This site is by no means definitive. It is organic and growing since more images of past and present works will be added as time goes by. It will eventually become a type of extensive visual biography, akin to a published book in the years ahead. A few of the works may be for sale, so if you find something you absolutely must have, please take a screen shot of it and e-mail it to me so that I can see whether your selection is still in my domain or failing that, I will try to tell you as to which collection has acquired it.

It is also my intention to eventually include another section on this site which will allow you, personally, to acquire one of my editioned works, free.

Ultimately, take the visual challenges offered, and I do hope you enjoy the experiences.
